Dollar General employee sent to hospital after Sunday night shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Sunday night a Dollar General employee was sent to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries after an attempted robbery.

Officer Rod Mauldin with the Birmingham Police Department confirms that the shooting occurred at 3301 26th street North.

Authorities at the scene said that the suspect entered the store, found an employee and walked to the counter with a gun drawn.

The suspect fired one shot, injuring the cashier.

Authorities say that there is surveillance video however, no suspects are in custody at this time.
