Detectives arrest suspect in Birmingham homicide investigation

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection with an incident that happened on June 14, 2019.

Jeremiah Lorenzo Rapley, 33 of Birmingham, was arrested on a capital murder charge for the death of Demegious Osborne, 42 of Birmingham.

Around 3:10 p.m. on June 14, officers from the North Precinct responded to the 1000 block of 5th Street North to investigate a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying along the roadway between a vehicle and the curb. The victim was unresponsive and officers notified the medics for treatment, police report.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and found that the victim had succumbed to his injury. The Jefferson County Coroner arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Rapley took money from the victim before leaving the scene, police say.

Rapley remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
