ROANOKE, Va. (WRIC) — A reporter with WDBJ who worked with Alison Parker and Adam Ward, the two journalists fatally shot Wednesday morning while live on air, is asking supporters to spread the word to wear turquoise and maroon in honor of the victims.

Nadine Maeser posted on Facebook late Wednesday a photo of a ribbon she made for her friends and coworkers at the station.

Maeser said she chose the colors because turquoise was Alison Parker’s favorite color and Adam Ward loved maroon, out of support for his alma mater, Virginia Tech.

“Please consider wearing either turquoise or maroon in honor of these two beautiful people who were robbed of their futures,” she added.

Parker, who had just turned 24, and Ward, 27, were killed after they were shot by former coworker and reporter at WDBJ, 41-year-old Vester Lee Flanagan II during an on-air interview. Interview subject Vicki Gardner was also injured by the gunman, but is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Flanagan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
