BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) —  UPDATE: The victim found inside an extinguished, burning car is 18-year-old Ladarius Clemontay Parker. According to the Jefferson County Coroner, Parker was pronounced dead at 11:22 p.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office continues to work this case.

A body was found inside a burning car after it was extinguished in the area of Arabia Avenue near Jamaica Street in the Edgewater community. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted of the vehicle fire at 11:30 p.m. Monday evening.

After an investigation, the fire shows no signs of foul play. According to the report, it appears that the vehicle left the roadway, went through several small trees before the undercarriage of the car struck a cemented manhole cover, penetrating the vehicle’s gas tank and causing it to erupt in flames.

The body of the victim was released to the Jefferson County’s coroner office to determine cause of death and identity.
