COOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The body discovered near Paint Creek Sunday night has been identified as a Sylacauga man.

Jason Alexander Hayes, 34 of Sylacauga, was found floating face-down near the Paint Creek, according to the Coosa County Coroner. Hayes’ body has been sent to DFS in Montgomery to confirm if foul play had a part in his death.

ORIGINAL: The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office reports that a body was discovered near Paint Creek Sunday night.

Officials received a call around 6:18 p.m. from the Hidden Valley community near Paint Creek. The caller stated that they saw what appeared to be a face-down body floating in the creek.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded and the Gap of the Mountain Rescue Squad is working to retrieve the body.

The Coosa County Sheriff’s Office is conducting this case as a death investigation.
