BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating two shootings that sent three people to the hospital – one with life-threatening injuries – early Monday morning. Police believe the incidents may be related.
Police received a call around 2 a.m. via ShotSpotter, a system that alerts law enforcement to gunshots. They responded to Pearson Ave. and 17th St. SW and found a small scene at the Valero gas station near there.
Around the same time, another officer on another call saw a vehicle parked in the middle of Princeton Ave. A man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds was lying beside the car. A woman inside the car also had been shot. Both were transported to UAB. Police say the man’s injuries were life-threatening. Both victims were in their late 20s or early 30s.
Police tell CBS 42 they believe the shootings are related to the scene at the gas station. Our news partner, AL.com, reports that the shootings may have happened there.
AL.com also is reporting another shooting on Pearson Ave. nearby, where police say a man was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital. Police say this shooting may be related to the others.
