Birmingham Police Department arrests three in illegal gambling raid


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police raided a building in which they arrested several people and seized a number of illegal gambling machines on Wednesday afternoon, according to tweets by the department.

In the raid in the 2400 block of Avenue C in Ensley, the Vice Narcotics division initially detained 11 individuals, some with outstanding warrants. Police arrested Devon Painter of Adamsville, Justin Ashley of Minor and Maurice Graham of Birmingham at the scene of the raid. Painter and Minor are charged with operating an illegal gambling establishment, and Graham is being held on “multiple warrants” as well as unlawful possession of a controlled substance charges according to the Birmingham Police Department twitter page.

At this time, the department has not released the number of illegal gambling machines seized in the raid.
