BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation at the 4300 block of 44th Avenue North after a man died Thursday morning.
BPD public information officer Truman Fitzgerald said officers were dispatched at around 9:35 a.m. to the location on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on a porch unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the man to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 23-year-old Birmingham resident Deunte Jurrell Winston.
Fitzgerald said the preliminary investigation suggests there was an argument between the victim and another man. That led to the suspect firing shots at the victim. The suspect fled the scene and is not in custody.
