BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department has made an arrest in a deadly shooting in Birmingham Friday night.

Dmarcco Montez Harris, 26, has been charged with murder and attempted murder for the shooting that took place in the 4200 block of 2nd Avenue South just before 11 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered a man lying unresponsive on a staircase and a second unresponsive male lying on a nearby sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the second was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries.

The deceased victim was later identified as Roderick Mariachi Williams Jr., 25, of Birmingham. According to BPD, the two victims are believed to have gotten into an altercation with Harris before the shooting.

Harris is now being held at the Jefferson County Jail on a $2,000,000 bond.

No other information has been released as BPD continues to investigate.
