2 more suspects arrested in connection to ATM stolen from Walgreens in Hoover

Police arrested two more suspects in connection to a burglary case involving a stolen ATM machine. 

42-year-old Jason Alana Shafer and 33-year-old Stacy Mae Morris Shafer were both arrested Tuesday night, according to Hoover police. 

On July 12, Hoover police responded to a burglary in progress at the Walgreens in the 5200 block of Ross Bridge Parkway near Highway 150. Security cameras captured two suspects loading the ATM machine onto a flatbed truck. 

Hoover police led the suspects on a chase after attempting a traffic stop. The suspects reportedly fired shots at officers. No one was injured. 

Police arrested George Franklin Staples III and Eddie Charles Medley later in connection to the burglary. They were charged with attempted murder, second-degree burglary, receiving stolen property and obstructing justice. 

According to Hoover police, further investigation linked Jason and Stacy Shafer to the theft as well. Jason Shafer is charged with second-degree burglary and receiving stolen property. He is being held on a $60,000 bond. Stacy Shafer is charged with second-degree burglary, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana. She is being held on a $43,000 bond. 

Both suspects were taken to the Hoover City Jail but will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday.
