BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A homicide investigation is underway after two men were shot at a known drug house in the 2100 block of 31st Ave N, Birmingham police say.

Birmingham police responded to a report of two people shot around 1 p.m. Tuesday night. When they arrived, they found one victim suffering a shot to the body, and another suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Both victims were taken to UAB Hospital.

Wednesday, the victim, identified as 31-year-old Roger Cheatham of Birmingham, passed away from his injuries, medical staff said.

Police say the victim and another man were inside the house, which residents in the area say is known as a drug house. A witness told investigators the two were inside when three men forced their way inside, when they held everyone at gunpoint and searched the residence for something. When they found what they were looking for, both men were shot.

The three suspects, described by police as black males, fled the scene in a purple Altima.
