18-year-old killed, 1 rushed to hospital after shooting on 22nd Place in Ensley

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — On Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, a person was pronounced dead and another was sent to the hospital after a shooting took place on the 2900 block of 22nd Place in the Ensley area. Officers from the west precinct responded to a Shot Spotter call.

When officers arrived, they found a male subject, 18-year-old Javaruise Lewis of Minter, Alabama, inside the residence unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

A second victim was located outside building suffering from a gunshot wound. They were transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue for treatment.

The second victim is expected to recover from their injury.
