1 person dead after shooting near apartments on 24th Street, police investigating

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A person was lying on the ground unresponsive in the rear of an apartment complex on the 900 blocks of 24th Street South Tuesday night. Police of the south precinct responded to the call after the shooting occurred at 9:30 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Johnny Wayne Mann, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived along with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced Mann, 44, of Mulga, dead at the scene.

There are no suspects in custody.
