BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — The Oak Mountain community is coming together to provide meals and raise money to help the family of Birmingham Police Sergeant, Wytasha Carter. Carter’s son Taelen is in the marching band, and they are leading the efforts.

An Oak Mountain High School student started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Carter’s family. The marching band booster club is taking gift cards, money, and using a meal service to provide dinner for the family.

Barbara Harrington is a booster club leader. Harrington says Carter was very involved and always helped out.

“He was often at band practices. He would stand up on the hill, often in uniform, about to go to work or coming from work. And such pride in his eyes watching his son in the band.” said Harrington.
