Central AL Forecast: Summer Storms and Summer Heat Prevail

News

5:42 PM: SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for Cherokee County until 6:30 PM. Quarter-sized hail & 60 mph wind gusts possible in the area.

RIGHT NOW: Seeing scattered afternoon thunderstorms all across West Alabama this afternoon. Isolated reports of trees & power lines knocked down have come in, along with few reports of dime-sized hail or smaller. Expect the rain to prevail through the rest of the early evening hours.

TONIGHT: Once the rain fades away, the sky should stay partly cloudy overnight and temperatures will stay warm. Lows expected in the low 70s.

TOMORROW: We essentially rinse & repeat today’s forecast again for tomorrow…hot & humid with isolated afternoon showers. Highs expected in the low 90s, heat index in the upper 90s. Afternoon rain chance at 30%.

THIS WEEKEND: The forecast stays essentially untouched rolling into the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will feature near-average temperatures for summer in the 90s along with mostly sunny skies. Still can’t totally rule out a pop-up shower areawide, so keeping rain chances at 20%, although the majority of us will only see sunshine. Go outside & enjoy it!

NEXT WEEK: Afternoon highs will be a tad hotter at next week’s start in the mid 90s. Other than that, not much changes…rain chances anywhere from 20 to 30 percent Monday through Wednesday.
