Central AL Forecast: Scorching temps into the weekend

News

RIGHT NOW: We’re off to a quiet start in the weather world here in Alabama, coming off a HOT afternoon yesterday.  The official high at the Birmingham airport yesterday was 98°, and we’re likely to be just as hot today, if not a couple of degrees hotter.

TODAY: We have another code Orange in effect for Jefferson & Shelby counties on our air quality index.  This is due to potentially high ozone concentrations from hot weather & sinking motion in the atmosphere.  It may be unhealthy to be outside for too long for sensitive groups.

Above all, expect a repeat of what we had yesterday…abundant sunshine and a dry heat.  Temperatures will be well above normal for August with highs reaching the upper 90s areawide, some spots likely reaching the 100° mark.

TONIGHT: We stay quiet overnight with a clear sky.  Lows in the low 70s.

TOMORROW: Sunday will be hot and mainly sunny as well.  The humidity may be slightly higher and highs will once again hit the upper 90s.

NEXT WEEK: Our weekend dry spell will likely come to a close early this coming week as rain chances go up.  I’m anticipating decent coverage of afternoon showers & storms starting on Monday. That trend should continue for most of the week.  Highs shouldn’t be quite as extreme thanks to the better rain chances as well…mid 90s Monday/Tuesday, low 90s beyond.
