U.S. (WIAT) — According to the CDC, 72 cases of Acute Flaccid Myelitis, AFM, have been confirmed in 24 states.
The CDC reports, 26 more patients have been tested, bringing the total number of cases being investigated to 119. AFM affects an area of the spinal cord and can cause paralysis.
Almost all cases of AFM occur in children under 18 years old.
