BAILEYTON, Ala (WIAT) – The Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald cast visited Parkside Elementary K-8 school Thursday to shoot a promotional for the upcoming film.
Parkside made national headlines after teachers Jacy Douglas, Tracey Jones, and Karen Moon decorated the 7th and 8th grade hallway and classrooms to resemble Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series. We first reported about this in August.
Cast members Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, Zoe Kravitz, Ezra Miller, and Callum Turner spoke to students and presented a $25k check to the school. Students also received new backpacks full of supplies. Principal Richard Orr says he can’t believe it.
“What it means to a small school on a low budget. That we can do so many more things. It’s just overwhelming.” said Orr.
Orr says his students are amazed.
“They’ll never forget this as long as they’re alive and this is amazing experience for them.” said Orr.
The visit also impacted the actors as well, including Eddie Redmayne and Zoe Kravitz.
“Coming to this school today and seeing those kids faces, and how much adrenaline they had, and how much adrenaline we had, it makes it all joyous.” said Redmayne.
“To come here. Look into their eyes, and go off into the world promoting this film, this is why I’m here.” said Kravitz.
Tracey Jones teaches 7th and 8th grade math. She says she never thought her plans to create a Hogwarts themed hall and classrooms would lead to this national attention. She hopes the schools story will inspire others.
“We’re a big old family here. We love each other. We take care of each other… if this little school that’s 78 percent free and reduced lunch can do something amazing that makes the kids excited to be at school, then any school can do it.” said Jones.
The Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters on November 16th.
