Byrne predicts Trump will be impeached

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Now that Democrats control the U.S. House of Representatives, Lower Alabama Congressman Bradley Byrne is convinced that President Trump will be impeached in the next two years.

“I fully expect that they’ll do that,” Byrne told News 5. “Democrats will have all sorts of their own investigations. They’ll plow the same ground over and over again.”

Special prosecutor Robert Mueller has yet to announce the finding of his investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia in 2016 and whether the President obstructed justice when he fired FBI Director James Comey in 2017.

“They’ll bring it up for a vote for impeachment,” said Byrne, a Republican from Fairhope. “They’ll have the votes to do that.”

The House can bring an impeachment, which is similar to an accusation or indictment. The Senate then conducts a trial, with a two-thirds vote required for conviction and ouster from office.

“It has no chance of succeeding in the Senate,” Byrne said. “It’s a total waste of time.

Only two presidents have been impeached. Neither Andrew Johnson nor Bill Clinton was convicted. Richard Nixon resigned as the House was about to vote on impeachment.
