“We will have to cover for those vacancies,” BCS spokesman Craig Williams said. “That will mean some bus drivers will be picking up some additional routes at the beginning of the school year before those vacancies are filled.”

Williams said recruiting bus drivers is a reoccurring issue every year and the shortfall impacts bus routes.

At the end of the last school year, BCS was short 34 bus drivers. As of Wednesday, drivers make a little over $14,000 annually. That comes to roughly $16 per hour with a five-hour minimum shift, 183 days a year.
