LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) – On Wednesday, the groundbreaking for Buc-ee’s in Leeds was held. Buc-ee’s, a popular convenience store and gas station, is originally from Texas but is branching out to other states.
The Buc-ee’s in Leeds will be the second one in Alabama. The Leeds location will be off I-20 at exit 140 near the Outlet Mall and Barber Motorsports.
Leeds Mayor David Miller said the Buc-ee’s has been in the works for 3 weeks. Miller said Buc-ee’s officials told him the retail store alone would make around $25 million and they would sell about 18 million gallons of gas the first year.
“Of all the things we’ve had in Leeds for economic development and there’s been quite a few, big ones. this is it. this is Buc-ee’s it’s finally happening and we’re just tickled to death,” said Miller.
Miller said construction won’t start until the end of the year, but to expect Buc-ee’s up and running sometime in 2020.
