PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Update 2:30 p.m.- Pelham Police issue an all clear after clearing the scene of the Chlorine leak in the Indian Hills Community.

Update 1: 30 p.m. – The Pelham Police Department is urging residents to continue to take shelter. Crews are on the scene working to clear the chlorine leak.
Authorities say at this time, they are monitoring the gas chlorine leak and the levels of the fumes in the air. Officials say they are still urging residents who live in the Indian Hills Community to stay indoors at this time. They are also urging everyone in the community to make sure that you put your pets indoors as well.
One person has been taken to the hospital for treatment from exposure to the chlorine leak.
12:30 p.m. – The Pelham Police Department has alerted the Indian Hills community to avoid the area and to stay inside due to a hazmat situation.
Authorities say a small chlorine leak around a cylinder in the 1800 Block of Indian Hills Road is causing emergency officials to block roads in that area as they work to remove the hazardous leak.
Shelby County EMA Officials says that residents need to stay away 1,000 feet from the site where crews are working to clear the situation.

Officers are assisting the Pelham Fire Department. All businesses and residents in the area of Indian Hills Road should remain indoors with doors and windows closed according to Pelham authorities.
