Body found in Mill Village area of Sylacauga identified

SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WIAT) – UPDATE: The body has been identified as Paul Erwin Franke, according to a press release from Sylacauga police.

Franke was found in a pickup truck in an area known as “old box mill,” and was identified by a state-issued ID card found inside of his clothing, as well as personal belongings in the area.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab has not yet determined a cause of death.

ORIGINAL: Police in Sylacauga are investigating a body recovered from the area. The remains were reportedly found in an equipment yard in the Mill Village area.

We’re told men working nearby noticed a body Monday night, sometime around 10 pm, and called police.

The remains have been sent off for identification. They’re notifying possible family members now and are waiting to get a positive identification.
