BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT)– It’s a tradition that’s becoming as common as turkey and dressing on Thanksgiving Day. Thousands hit the stores to get their hands on early Black Friday deals.
“It’s been a, really, a time honor tradition in our family. We always do it have been for a very long time, so it’s really just a fun time for us to look forward to and when we haven’t spent a lot of time together we catch up,” says one Black Friday shopper waiting in line.
Several stores opened their doors Thanksgiving Day to accommodate the large crowds.
JC Penney opened at 2:00. Belk opened at 4 p.m.
Shoppers were in line hours before the doors opened.
“You just have to be patient,” says one shopper.
Not everyone who comes out and braves the lines cares about the bargains.
“My sister made me come out here. I just want to watch football,” one guy said in line.
The crowds are only expected to grow as more stores open the doors throughout Thanksgiving night into Black Friday.
