BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham is in good company among top cities for job seekers.
In an Indeed report published June 13, Birmingham ranks fourth for best cities for job seekrs in 2019. San Jose took first followed by San Francisco and Boston. Birmingham nosed out Nashville who ranked fifth.
Indeed based the criteria on cities where jobseekers face the least competition for jobs, command the highest salaries, work at the highest-rated companies and face a low likelihood of unemployment.
Josh Carpenter, the director of Innovation and Economic Opportunity for Birmingham says they have had more residents employed this year than in year’s past.
Birmingham is home to top companies like Shipt, Regions, Alabama Power and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
“We were thrilled that this year 2100 new Birmingham residents were employed,” Carpenter said, “We have more residents entering the workforce.”
“Right now there are about 1000 tech jobs that open at any given time. Companies like Shipt are hiring 800 people within the next couple of years,” Carpenter said.
Birmingham is not stopping there. The city is planning to keep the momentum going as it continues to introduce innovative businesses.
“We’re excited about the companies that’ll follow shipt to be that next big unicorn company and then we’re thrilled to have companies that have been here for a long time grow and expand and deepen their presence in our market,” Carpenter said.
The Magic City ranks at the top for adjusted salary, according to Indeed. And the report also states the city has recently gained traction as a health care hub with one of the nation’s top-rated hospital.
Look no further, job seekers, Birmingham has it all.
