Birmingham Police: victim of Ensley shooting may be known vagrant


ENSLEY, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police are investigating a shooting that took place at the Avenue I exit of I-20/59 in Ensley, according to the department.

Officers were dispatched around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, they found a white male lying on his stomach suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was recognized as a possible vagrant who’s known for asking for money from people exiting the interstate.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials believe the victim may have argued with occupants of a car at the scene. Investigators believe the victim walked away and the suspects drove off, only to return to the location and fire several rounds at the victim. The suspects then fled the scene.
