BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Police are investigating a surge of shootings that rung out in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.
These incidents are not believed to be related. Around 5 p.m., police responded to the 7300 block of Oporto Avenue. Police tell CBS 42 a man was shot in the neck. His injuries are believed to be life threatening. The victim was sent to the hospital for medical attention.
Police were also investigating another shooting around the same time in the 600 block of 3rd Avenue West. A man was shot in the back and suffered life threatening injuries, police say. He was also sent to UAB hospital for treatment.
A homicide investigation is also underway in Birmingham. Just before 7 p.m., police responded to the 600 block of Delta Street on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived to find a victim unresponsive from a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported the victim to UAB hospital for treatment. Hospital staff later pronounced the victim dead from his injuries. Further details revealed that a suspect fired shots from a car as it drove past the location. No suspects are in custody at this time.
There was also another shooting in the 1500 block of Pearson Avenue. Police said the victim left the scene by a private vehicle with non-life threatening injuries.
