Birmingham police are thankful for the recovery of injured officer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham police officer shot while responding to a robbery near downtown is recovering. The Birmingham Police Department posted on a social media picture of Officer Cullen Stafford in the hospital stating that he is making tremendous progress and is thankful for all the support he has received.

Officer Stafford was shot while responding to a robbery at the Family Supermarket on 23rd Street North. The suspect, Roderik Wilson, was shot and killed.

A second officer sustained injuries from a fall during the incident.
