BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — CBS 42 announced Jack Royer will co-anchor CBS 42 News at 5, 6 and 10 pm with veteran news anchor Sherri Jackson beginning July 16, 2018.
Royer joined CBS 42 News in 2017 as a reporter working at the station’s Tuscaloosa News Bureau, then quickly moved into reporting throughout the state and anchoring duties. Prior to joining CBS 42, Royer covered the change of power from former Alabama Governor Robert Bentley to Governor Kay Ivey.
Royer previously served as a weeknight anchor and reporter at University of Alabama’s WVUA 23 News. His reporting has been recognized by the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association and the Associated Press, and has earned him an Emmy nomination.
“Jack is a true journalist. He has the highest ethics and standards when it comes to reporting local news affecting our viewers. Because Jack grew up here, he is committed to being part of the community,” said CBS 42 News Director Rob Martin.
Royer was raised in Birmingham and attended the University of Alabama. He is no stranger to the media community. His father is veteran Meteorologist and News Anchor Mike Royer.
Royer began his career broadcasting high school football on local radio. He earned the Judges Award of Merit from the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association for Best Small Market Sportscaster in 2012.
“Birmingham is my home. I love this community and the people here,” said Royer. “I look forward to serving the community that I grew up in both on and off air.”
