BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A mobile app connecting parents to college babysitters is booming in the Southeast.
Come to find out, the idea was birthed right here in Central Alabama.
Parents know how difficult it can be to find a trusted babysitter.
The Wyndy App is making that process much easier.
Wyndy is helping people in Birmingham, Mobile, Tuscaloosa and more find babysitting jobs.
“We’ve got apps that make it really easy to get a ride or really easy to get your groceries delivered, why wasn’t there an app that could make it just as easy to find a trusted babysitter,” said Tommy Mayfield, Wyndy co-founder and CEO.
Unlike any other babysitting service, all of the Wyndy babysitters are full-time college students and must pass a background check before booking any jobs.
The app’s co-owner is an attorney turned app developer who says it’s an exciting time to be an entrepreneur in Birmingham.
“Obviously with some of the news that we’ve had recently with Shipt, what they’ve done sort of laying a foundation for other startups to come behind and really try to make Birmingham into a tech ecosystem or grow our tech ecosystem here,” said Mayfield.
Birmingham-based Shipt was recently purchased by Target.
That acquisition was the latest move helping to put the city on the map in the tech world, in turn, helping smaller start-ups gain traction.
Wyndy plans to expand to other markets. An announcement about specifics is expected to be made soon.
