Birmingham American Outlaws celebrate U.S. victory

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)- Sunday night is not usually big business for Good People Brewing Company. The tap room closes up shop at seven most Sundays. This Sunday was not most Sundays. More than two hundred soccer fans flooded Good People to take part in the American Outlaws’ Birmingham watch party. “More than anything it’s about camaraderie,” said Ballard Jones, Vice-President of the Birmingham chapter. “We started off with about a solid twenty group of guys and now you see people turning out in droves.”

The soccer fans aren’t just strong in number. Their cheers could be heard in the streets surrounding the Good People building next door to Regions Field. “It gets crazy loud,” said bartender Billy Autrey, as the crowd roared almost on cue. “I’ll be pouring beer and I just hear people screaming. I’m like, ‘Oh, we scored goal!’ Then I look up, and they’re just passing. These guys are crazy and I love it!”

As part of their “Chapter Criteria” the Birmingham Outlaws chapter must host a viewing party at their “home base bar” for every game featuring the U.S. Men’s National Team or U.S. Women’s National Team.

The party was crazier thanks to a U.S. victory, but win, lose, or draw the night was going to be a good one. Ballard agreed, saying, “Any time we get to wear the red, white, and blue we really enjoy it.”
