Bessemer recreation center expected to open in August, ribbon cutting July 2


BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — A brand new recreation center will open soon in Bessemer, located in Roosevelt Park at the corner of 14th Street and Hall Avenue. The new center has workout equipment, a swimming pool, basketball courts, a splash pad and outdoor athletic fields. There are also tennis courts and multi-purpose rooms for events. The facility is expected to open in August.

The recreation center will be unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony that will occur July 2 at 12 p.m. A free event after the ribbon cutting will last until 4 p.m. The event will include a cook-off, vendors a kid’s zone with arts and crafts, in addition to local gospel, jazz and R&B talent. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for an evening concert, which included artists such as Sunshine Anderson, Alvin Garrett, Urban Mystic and The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards.

Cost of admission is $20. Tickets can be purchased on Ticketmaster, at the Bessemer Civic Center and City Hall Auditorium.
