Behind the scenes at SEC Media Days

News

HOOVER, Ala (WIAT) – The 2019 SEC Media Days officially kicked off Monday and CBS 42 is taking you behind the scenes at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham – Wynfrey Hotel.

Day one kicked off with coaches and players from the University of Missouri, University of Florida, and Louisiana State University.

The Missouri Tigers were the first team to meet with the media. Head Coach, Barry Odom, QB Kelly Bryant, LB Cole Garrett, and DB Markus Acy attended the event.

The Florida Gators were the next team to answer questions from the media with Head Coach Dan Mullen, QB Felipe Franks, RB Lamical Perine, and DL Jabari Zuniga.

LSU was next in line and represented by Head Coach Ed Oregon, QB Joe Burrow, center Lloyd Cushenberry, and safety Grant Delpit.

Fans wait by the front entrance of the hotel to meet coaches, players, and hopefully leave with autographs and pictures. Radio Row occupies the first of the main level where radio stations from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Florida and more host live shows. Upstairs other media outlets hear from coaches and players and ask questions.

Hotel management says extensive planning is required to host such a large event. Matt Sterley is General Manager at the hotel and says planning starts at least one year in advance.

“Everything from security to food and beverage, logistically where we’ll put all the sets. It’s a big undertaking,” said Sterley. “It’s a lot of planning both on our side and the SEC side. Coming back and forth from different venues they pick up ideas that they want to take from their and bring them here and vice versa. So it’s a lot of communication with them as well. There’s a lot of communication with them as well that goes into the playing process.”

Stay with CBS 42 for updates as our coverage continues the entire week. Coaches and players from Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A & M, and Tennesee will attend SEC Media Days on Tuesday.
