Be careful! Remember these firework safety tips this 4th of July

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 9,000 people were hurt last year by fireworks.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Sebastian Carillo visited Studio 42 on deck to remind everyone what to do and not do with fireworks this Independence Day.

  1. Leave it to professionals to shoot fireworks. Check out local fireworks shows.
  2. Make sure it is only adults shooting fireworks.
  3. If injured, call 911 and seek treatment
  4. Be mentally aware when dealing with fireworks, no drinking and firing alcohol
  5. Practice safety: don’t shoot roman candles and bottle rockets at one another!
  6. Be careful where you shoot your fireworks, don’t aim at buildings
  7. Most importantly: In Birmingham, fireworks are illegal.
