BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Auburn was the feature team Saturday night at the inaugural BHM JAM at Legacy Arena at the BJCC. They didn’t disappoint. The 9-1 Tigers dominated early over Middle Tennessee and held on in the second half, taking the 76-70 win over the 7-2 Blue Raiders.
Auburn was red hot in the 1st half, shooting 48% from the field and knocking down 5 three-pointers. They led 42-25 at the break. It was a different story in the final 20 minutes. The Blue Raiders found their stroke from beyond the arc, shooting 8-13 from distance and helping them close the gap late in the game.
Free throws were the story in the 2nd half. Both teams combined for 37 free throw attempts. For the game, Auburn went 20-26 from the charity stripe. Middle Tennessee was 17-25.
Four Tigers scored in double figures. Guards Jared Harper and Mustapha Heron chipped in 16 points apiece. Chuma Okeke had 14 off the bench. Horace Spencer scored 11 on a perfect 4-4 shooting night.
Auburn led by as much as 25 points and never trailed in the game. Their next game is Tuesday at Murray State.
