The Calera Police Department arrested and charged Jeff West with murder in the death of his wife, Calera mother Kathleen “Kat” West.

Jeff West is maintaining his innocence, according to his attorney John Robbins. Robbins joined us on the CBS 42 Morning News with Art Franklin to further discuss the case that has gained national attention.

Investigators believe Kat West was killed when she was struck with a Lucid Absinthe bottle. West’s body was found outside of her home in the 100 block of Green Wood Circle in January, according to Calera Police.

Robbins says the defense is looking into Kat West’s lifestyle to see how it may connect to her murder. West was an adult-themed model on a subscription-based website.

Jeff West’s attorney is also working to get his $500,000 bond reduced.

“The man’s 21 years in the military, honorably discharged, worked in law enforcement at Birmingham Southern College, has no criminal record – I just think a $500,000 is outrageous,” Robbins said.
