BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — The popular online market Amazon, is breaking ground today on its new site in Bessemer. This four story fulfillment center is expected to make a positive economic impact on the state while bringing more than 1,500 jobs to the area.
Employees at the center will pick, pack and ship small items sold on Amazon’s website which includes books, electronics and toys.
Workers will make about $14.65 an hour plus benefits until next month with the wage increase to $15.
Bessemer mayor Kenneth Gulley says the $325 million deal is the largest single investment in the city’s history.
