BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — We’ve always thought it, but now we can confirm that Alabama has some of the worst drivers in America. Not you, of course, you’re great.
SmartAsset.com recently released a report that ranked all 50 states based on how good, or in Alabama’s case bad, the drivers in the state are.
Some of the metrics used included percentage of drivers who are insured, number of DUI arrests per 1,000 drivers, number of fatalities per 10,000 vehicle miles driven and how often residents Google terms like “traffic ticket” or “speeding ticket.”
Alabama had the sixth lowest percentage of insured drivers and DUI incidents per 1,000 drivers. But the state also had the sixth highest fatalities per 100,000 miles driven at 1.56 and had the fourth highest rate of Google searches.
Mississippi finished as the worst driving state while Massachusetts was named the best driving state.
