(CBS & CNN) – CHICAGO, IL – Chicago Police are reporting a string of deadly, violent shootings this past weekend. Officials say 7 people were killed and 52 people were wounded across the city.
Authorities say one weapon was taken off the streets during the violent weekend.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot along with Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Tuesday that the parameters for bail need to be based on common sense.
In recent weeks, Lightfoot has discussed getting rid of cash bail. However, when it comes to public safety, she says those with lengthy criminal records and possession of powerful firearms should not be able to bond out so easily.

Police say they responded to 32 shooting-related incidents since Friday evening. Sunday, 17 people were shot in three separate incidents in the Lawndale Area in the span of two hours.
That forced Mount Sinai Hospital to stop accepting new patients for a time.
Last Friday, a toddler was hurt in a shooting after three people were involved in a fight in Englewood.
Police say they are now rolling out a new website to track down people who have been charged with felonies for carrying guns.
Transparency they say they hope will lead to change.
