Multiple officers shot in downtown Philadelphia


(CBS) – PHILADELPHIA, PA – We are following breaking news of an active shooting scene under investigation, where multiple officers have been shot.

Authorities say the Philadelphia Police Officers were shot in Philadelphia’s Nicetown-Tioga section and rushed to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The officers were taken to Temple University Hospital.

Officials say 6 of the officers have non-life threatening injuries and 1 officer is injured after crashing a car while heading to the scene.

The Swat team and other agencies are currently on the scene as multiple shots are still being fired. The area is under lockdown.

Residents in the community are being asked to move further from the active scene where the suspect is barricaded inside of a home. Authorities say the suspect was live-streaming the incident on social media as he was firing multiple shots in the area.

Officials say the shooting suspect had a warrant for his arrest and as police went to arrest the suspect that is when the incident started. Authorities say the suspect is armed with a rifle.

CBS has confirmed that two police officers are still in the same building as the shooter.

Police say the shooting happened on the 3700 block of north 15sth Street and the scene of the shooting is right down the street from Temple University Hospital.

Temple University has been placed on lockdown as the scene remains active at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation.
