3 suspects carjack woman at gunpoint, officer injured during chase in Trussville

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — Police are investigating a vehicle pursuit where a police cruiser crashed and caught fire early Sunday morning

Around midnight on Sunday, there was an armed robbery in the 6200 block of Kestral View. Three men armed with a gun robbed a woman of her vehicle, Trussville Police report.

Shortly after, a BOLO (Be on the lookout) was issued and officers found the vehicle traveling on Edwards Lake Road and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit began.

During the pursuit, one of the Trussville patrol vehicles crashed and it caught on fire in the area of Brewster Road. The police officer was able to exit the vehicle and was transported to UAB hospital where he was admitted overnight as a safety precaution to monitor for internal bleeding.

The stolen vehicle was located in the 600 block of Earline Circle. Witnesses told police two suspects, one wearing a white hoodie and the other wearing a red shirt, bailed out on foot and ran into the tree line before officers arrived.

At this time, police recovered the stolen vehicle and it will be processed for evidence, Trussville Police report.
