FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — I-20/59 is closed at Lloyd Noland Parkway in Fairfield due to a tractor-trailer fire. We are following this breaking news story —
3:52 PM: Northbound lanes on I-20/59 have reopened, and traffic is traveling under the bridge on Lloyd Noland Parkway.
7:38 AM: Two southbound lanes on I-20/59 are now open.
6:37 AM: According to Captain Harrell Watson with Birmingham Fire, the driver of the tractor-trailer was traveling from Mississippi to North Carolina carrying paper in a JB Hunt 18 wheeler. The driver is currently at Brookwood Hospital suffering what appeared to be minor injuries.
5:14 AM: Taveares Woodward was one of the first people on the scene. He says he saw the driver on the side of the road and stopped to help her.
“I stumbled up on a young lady, like she was screaming for help,” Woodard said. “I jumped the wall and I found her. She was just clinging. I picked her up and I toted her to my truck.”
Officials say the driver did suffer from some scrapes, but she is expected to be okay.
4:33 AM: According to police, the female driver of the tractor-trailer lost control due to a tire blowout.
The driver will be transported to the hospital.
Jessie Parrish witnessed the explosion. He says the explosion shook his truck. He witnessed debris flying and more tires on the vehicle exploded.
Birmingham Fire has arrived on the scene to assist. Crews are having trouble hooking their lines into old Fairfield lines.
Both the northbound and southbound sides of I-20/59 are closed at this time.

The fire is on the northbound side of I-20/59.
A witness on the scene tells CBS42 that the driver of the tractor-trailer was able to escape.
