HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Monday, the mother of the 12-year-old girl injured in the Thanksgiving shooting at the Riverchase Galleria announced her daughter is out of the hospital.
The mother, Julie Moore Bennett, wrote in a Facebook post, “I am so thankful for all the messages, prayers and gifts we have received. Molly is home now, and doing much better. However, there are many other children still in the hospital that would greatly benefit from your generosity. If you were thinking of sending Molly a gift, please consider donating a gift to Children’s of Alabama, St. Jude’s, or your local Children’s Hospital in her honor instead.”
The young girl was one of two people injured by a gunman during the Black Friday shopping frenzy at the Riverchase Galleria. The current condition of the other person injured is not known at this time.
On the night of the shooting, Bennett posted on Facebook explaining in detail about what happened during the shooting. She thanks those who helped, including a military medic who stayed at her daughter’s side until help could arrive. She thanks the shoe store employees who allowed the medic to grab a shirt off the rack to hold pressure on her daughter’s wound and a jacket to keep her warm when she started to get cold. “Yeah, bad guys are out there. But what I learned from this is that there are so many more good guys and girls who are willing to go above and beyond to help a stranger in need. I love every single one of you!”
