Suspect in custody from Saturday shooting in Roosevelt City

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Update (8/5): A suspect is in custody in connection to the shooting of a woman Saturday afternoon.

Melissa King, 31, was arrested Monday after allegedly shooting, and ultimately killing, 32-year-old Brittaney Junious.

Police responded to a call August 3 that Junious was lying on the sidewalk in the 5900 block of Warner Street. Junious later succumbed to her injury once she arrived at the hospital.

Authorities say the dispute that led to the shooting was “domestic in nature associated to their ongoing relationship.”

King is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail.

Saturday afternoon, police responded to the 5900 block of Warner Street in Birmingham. Police report, one woman shot another leaving her injured.

The shooter is in custody, police say.
