Hillary Simon

Hillary Simon joined the CBS 42 team in December 2017 and is so excited to make central Alabama her new home!

She was born and raised in Katy, Texas, a suburb outside of Houston. For college, Hillary attended Indiana University where she majored in journalism and minored in music.

Following IU graduation, Hillary stuck around the Hoosier state and accepted her first reporter job at WFIE 14 News in Evansville, Indiana. She was the morning reporter for over 3 years. During her time at 14 News, Hillary covered a wide-range of stories. She was the first reporter to sleep on the streets to bring awareness to the homeless problem in the area. She also covered the heroin epidemic in Western Kentucky and often times, at the big breaking news in the morning.

Hillary knew at a young age she wanted to be a reporter. During her senior year of high school, she interned at a local entertainment news station in Houston. That was only the beginning. Going into her junior year of college, she interned at KPRC in Houston, Texas where her “news bug” really kicked in. The following summer, she headed out west and interned at KNBC in Los Angeles. She was there covering the George Zimmerman rally, Michael Jackson trial, and saw Mayor Eric Garcetti get sworn into office.

During her free time, Hillary loves to snuggle on the couch or go walking with her miniature schnauzer, Derby Belle, whom she rescued in Kentucky while living in Southern Indiana. She also loves to explore new restaurants, lay out by the pool, travel, and hang out with friends.

Watching sports was a must for Hillary in her household. She cheers on the Houston Astros (World Series champs!!), but everything else might seem confusing. Her mom went to the University of Alabama so chanting “Rolltide” was a must in the Simon house. She also cheers on the New Orleans Saints since her mom’s side of the family is from there. And then, of course, there’s Indiana University basketball. You could say her sports teams are a bit confusing, but she’s passionate about them all and has never switched her loyalty.

Hillary is so excited to be a part of the Magic City. If you have a story idea or just want to say hi, you can email Hillary here.
