Chris Renkel is a Sports Reporter for CBS 42 News. He joined the team in August of 2015.
Chris comes to the Magic City from Pocatello, Idaho where he lived for two years, working as a sports anchor and reporter for local KIFI/KIDK news.
During his time in the Gem State, Chris found a love of hiking, camping and exploring the vast wilderness the Pacific Northwest had to offer. Along the way, he covered local high school and college sports and learned the ins and outs of the sport of Rodeo.
Chris is a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and was involved with multiple student media groups, including Ball State Sports Link and News Link Indiana. As a member of WCRD 91.3 FM, Chris served as the radio sideline reporter for the Ball State Football team and radio play-by-play announcer for the Ball State women’s basketball team.
Chris has won multiple national reporting and storytelling awards, including an EMMY for Video Journalism in 2013.
Originally from Westlake, Ohio, Chris grew up a huge sports fan and still loves his Cleveland Browns and Indians. He is also an avid outdoorsman and enjoys backpacking, camping, hiking and canoeing in his spare time.
