Siesta Motel to be demolished

The Irondale commercial development authority is buying the Siesta Motel to demolish it.

IRONDALE, Ala. (WIAT) – Changes will soon be made to the landscape in the city of Irondale.

Irondale city leaders say the commercial development authority has entered into a contract to buy the Siesta Motel and demolish it for future commercial development.

The Siesta Motel is the place prosecutors say former handyman Steven Mulkey killed the owners, Ching Kao, 77, and his wife, Sumei Kao, 76, over what was characterized as a payment disagreement in September of 2018.

Mulkey was indicted by a grand jury in April on three charges of capital murder.
