BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — You have a chance to celebrate the state’s bicentennial and the 10th annual Rx For Summer Reading on Wednesday, July 17.
Alabama 200 and Reach Out and Read-Alabama are partnering together this summer in celebration of the state’s bicentennial and the 10th annual Rx for Summer Reading with Alabama, My Sweet Home by Charles Ghigna. Reach Out and Read Alabama program sites across the state will be providing copies of the book and hosting Alabama-themed activities.
Charles Ghigna, better known as Father Goose, debuted “Alabama, My Sweet Home”, a bicentennial book for young readers at the 2018 Alabama Book Festival. The work features a bear cub named Camilla who accompanies readers as they encounter famous Alabamians like Helen Keller, Rosa Parks and others.
One of those activities will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at UAB Primary Care Clinic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Local actor, Clayne Crawford, will be there to read the book at 1 p.m. Vulan Materials Company is providing copies of the book to each Reach Out and Read -AL Program site in the reading campaign.
