TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Black Warrior Riverkeeper is reporting a fish kill occurred Friday downstream of Bankhead Lock and Dam.

According to a Facebook post, the Riverkeeper Nelson Brooke was notified by a fisherman of the fish kill. Upon initial investigation, Brooke saw thousands of dead gizzard and threadfin shad.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers have been notified and are still investigating.

Fish found downstream of Bankhead Lock and Dam.

A cause of the fish kill has not yet been identified.
