Birmingham CERT training makes communities self-sufficient

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — You too can act as a first responder after taking CERT Training provided by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

CBS 42 Morning News Anchor Art Franklin spoke with Birmingham Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Sebastian Carillo and Birmingham CERT Coordinator Lt. Orlando Reynolds about the program geared toward teaching civilians how to react in times of crisis and natural disaster.

The goal of the program is to help make communities self-sufficient and to allow first responders to tackle bigger issues that may face a community during a natural disaster.

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team and is a nationwide program.
